We are all born into families who follow a particular religion. As we grow up, we are taught the values and rituals that accompany that specific religion. When we reach adulthood, we decide whether the spirituality that we have grown up with our entire lives is for our individual needs or not. Sometimes, we go as far as to say, no spiritual following suits us! The fact of the matter is that whether we realise it early on in our lives, or later like most, we all need a form of spiritual guidance. Going through early adulthood, where we are filled with all of the contradicting feelings of not knowing where we belong, finding and losing love, going through the motions of discovering that the world is so different as we initially thought it would be, definitely brings about a sense of sadness and confusion. It is only as we mature do we appreciate that maybe spirituality is what we are actually missing in our lives. We become so caught up in our own worlds, our personal needs and wants and forget that maybe if we put some effort into restoring our souls, that life wouldn’t feel so distressing and unworthy.
Life as we know it, is challenging and when we have some guidance and support in knowing that there is something greater and more powerful out there, it tends to lend much needed comfort to our lives. Embracing the routine of taking a day aside each week, to restore our souls, and appreciate some guidance is something that has fulfilled my life in a way I never thought possible. If you told me 15 years ago that I would have the sustenance I currently receive from attending church and enjoying the fellowship, I would have probably been dismissive as with most things I don’t always agree with. However, now that I have journeyed past half of my life, I finally realise just how much I need God and just how much happier I am knowing he is in my life. The challenge still remains in watching my children not entirely embrace the spirituality I have, but I pray each day that they will understand how important it is to have that kind of reassurance in their lives.
